Well first you need to know the approx. value of the car....go to Edmunds.com...KBB.com...and NADA.com and see what they list that car for and get an average. That should be a good starting point. I would offer several hundred below that average and see what they come back with. When they come back higher..just up your offer one or two hundred at a time. When you get around your average value just tell them that's what you're willing to pay..all they can do is say no.

To "NEGOTIATE" a car price, just tell the dealer what your offer is & see what they counter-offer. They probably won't agree to your first offer, so you actually may want to aim a little lower than what you would be willing to pay. Hopefully you all can meet somewhere in the middle.

The first thing you should do it look at websites for dealerships in your area. They usually list the lowest prices. Sometimes this will save you alot of back and forth.
The next thing to do is go shopping. Find the cars you are interested in, then tell the salesperson you have to "think about it"...take notes about the car and get their card and leave.
Do your negociations over the phone. Call the salesperson back and make an offer. Expect them to want you to come back in to discuss it, tell them you are busy and want the price issues resolved before going in. Some will work with you and some won't, don't sweat it.
The one in control is the one that will win, so you keep control and only buy from a dealer that has met your price. Also, if financing arrange the loan prior to purchasing. This will ensure that you get a good rate and payment, try your bank or credit union.
good luck

We've used "EconomyCarRentals.com." 3 times and have found them to be very competitively priced, professional and reliable. We have had 1 free upgrade and have been happy with all of the cars. Book on line and they will meet you at the airport or your choice of pick up etc.

Hi, We have always booked a car when in Cyprus, Petsas is very good. Are you going with a travel company? have a look at their prices when you get there. Last year we hired a car in England for when we arrived at Larnaca through our Tour company. When we picked up the car at Larnaca they made us pay an extra Cyp £40.00 for 2 extra drivers. Then when we got to the hotel we received a call from Budget Cars(don't go with them) saying that we had to pay an extra Cyp£97.00 for excess, our rep said she couldn't help us as we had booked the car in England even though it was through the same tour operator. If we had booked through her we wouldn't have had to pay, for excess. We have never had any trouble before but apparently it's new legislation. What i am saying to you is Read the small print, ask about the excess and if you have to pay, needless to say we are only booking our car when we get there this year. Don't let this put you off i love Cyprus, Have a great time.

If you want best price - I guess you should check the insurance quotes for the car before buying one, for example here: http://autoinsurance.noneto.com
SUVs have higher insurance rates than cars.

THe Honda Pilot is a great SUV. For mileage, Honda is the best. This suv will hold 8 people I think which is excellent.
They are also affordable, the resale value is higher than, say, domestic vehicles, and reliability is superb.
GMC envoy is also rather good, but mileage is not as good.
Hybrids are expensive, and the actual mileages are controversial. Plus, it would take years for you to compensate the extra money spent on hybrids (depending how much you drive of course).
The Toyota Highlander is a good choice as well.

I would suggest that you can go for i10. Interiors very much resembles a luxury car in i10. The smaller gear box is a real plus point over Santro. The increased price tag of i10 very much justifies its value. Its simple, i10 is a very good upgrade over Santro.
About the best second hand hyundai car dealer, you can try out Varshini Cars in Nandanam or Steefen cars in Gandhi Nagar, Adyar.
Any holiday, but the best ones are President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day and especially Labor Day. Most dealers offer blow-out sales on holidays, but are especially anxious to clear out their inventory before the new models arrive in their showrooms, which is why Labor Day is best. Good luck!

Actually, the best time is january, buying the previous year model vehicles. Only problem with that is you are taking a risk of them not having any of the previous year models left. So, the later in the year, the better...November or december. They are trying to get rid of the current years, so they can get more of the next years.

november because you get last years models that are still new and you will have variety still, on top of this you should buy at the end of the month, this will grant you the right to negotiate successfully much easier, as sales people have quotas to make and they will be eager for a quick sale. just go in on nov 28th ish and say, this is what i came here for, and i will pay this much, take it or leave it (dont flinch) and if you dont ill go to another dealer and get it there. they will try and negotiate and you say no this is it, perhaps you leave but come back the next day and say the same thing youll get the sale at your price (research that and determine what youll pay, i do no matter what invoice plus 800$ for commission to dealer and salesperson) so Invoice +800= my price. i did this buying my 2 cars and when my parents bought cars they did this and taught me, invoices are avalable on edmunds and yahoo.com dont use MSN they inflate them a little bit more to cut dealers some slack (all sites do this but edmunds and yahoo areless)

There are lots of online brokers who you can go to buy a car through. The discount you will get is much more than you could negotiate yourself if you personally went into the dealer. The discounts offered by these brokers are fleet discount prices ( the price that a company would get if they bought 10 cars for example). How it works is the broker approaches a certain dealer and negotiates a discounted price - usually a percentage - on their cars. Because the broker can send lots of customers to the dealer this is why high discounts are offered. Its a win win situation for everyone. The manufacturer annual sales are high, the dealer meets and exceeds targets set by the manufacturer earning them bonuses and the customer gets a car much cheaper than list price. Usually the brokers fee is a one off payment and once they put you in touch with the dealer you are then finished with the broker. The cars are UK sourced and it is the same car you would get if you went into the garage and ordered it yourself. The discount percentage is also applied to any extras you order as well. The only thing is you may have to travel within the UK to pick the car up or you could pay for delivery. I saved over £3000 buying a VW Passat. Try drivethedeal.co.uk or new-car-discount.com. There are lots of others and a search engine will give you lots of results.

Depends entirely on what you want the car for. For simple commuting I'd say:
Toyota Corolla
Honda Civic
Honda Accord
Honda Camry
Hyundai Elantra
Hyundai Sonata
Chevrolet Malibu

The Honda Civic, and Toyota Corolla are two cars comparable in size and power of the Dodge Neon, but are both much more reliable, higher quality better resale value cars. Both those cars are very very nice and are much better than the Neon. Also, both these cars are a great first car because they are cheap to buy, cheap to insure, and cheap on gas and maintenance. If kept right, it should last you well over 250K miles. Good LUck!!

Toyota - anything.... I have had some Camry's with over 400k miles on them.
So anything you can afford, have a mechanic check the car out. However stay in the Toyota with higher miles, is better than a say a Ford, Chevy, etc with low miles.
My Last 4Runner have over 600k and was a daily driver, while leaving my SC430 Lexus in the garage for the weekends with the top down.

Check with your local banks for repo's/bankruptcy cars! I just got a new car in January, it was a bankruptcy car I only had to pay $4200 and those people where stuck with the rest of the bill!! lol For a new Monte Carlo with super low mileage.
I also work at a bank, it kinda helps if you know people on the inside who can tell you about the deals.
