THe Honda Pilot is a great SUV. For mileage, Honda is the best. This suv will hold 8 people I think which is excellent.
They are also affordable, the resale value is higher than, say, domestic vehicles, and reliability is superb.
GMC envoy is also rather good, but mileage is not as good.
Hybrids are expensive, and the actual mileages are controversial. Plus, it would take years for you to compensate the extra money spent on hybrids (depending how much you drive of course).
The Toyota Highlander is a good choice as well.
