ask about the demos
ot tell them this is all you can spend… be reasonable and they might take a look
It really helps if you know what the car cost the dealer – and the incentives / rebates that are available.
If you live in the States – look on Edmunds.com
In Canada, you can purchase a Carfax report which gives you the dealers price. It’s around $35 for 3 different reports
I’ve heard that $750 above dealer cost is reasonable.
Research at “cars & Transportation” a lot of good information.
Ask them for there out the door price or you will be walking out the door
This is a true story, last year me and my wife were looking for a new car. We went to the ford shop in my area and they had a pontiac which had 23k on it.We loved the car so we started talking to the salesman and I was pointing out a couple things wrong with the car(one small dent in the drivers fender and a couple spots on the paint). Well the car was the model year, great right, someone else took the beating on the car. Before we starting talking to saleman I told my wife to look sad and let me do the talking.Well when the saleman came in I started with the couple of the bad things about car and he say he could work with us. The store manage came in and we all started talking and things were going good and than I told them that we could look pass the couple things but the wife told me that she hated the color(which was not true she loved the color) and we were thinking about going to look elsewhere. They told us to wait a minute and left. When they came back they sold us the car for 4k below bluebook for the car.
The best way to get a good deal on a car purchase is to be an informed consumer.
Do your research. Know how much you can afford. Know how much you can borrow. Know how much the car is worth. Know what the best interest rate available to you is.
Most of all be patient. There are hundreds of thousands of cars out there. If this one isn’t right another one will come along. Don’t let passion rule the decision. Pass up any deal that isn’t perfect.
Wait till 2008 after the lot has alot of new models then buy the 2007, research the market for prices and set the price you want to a realistic level and stick to it if the dealer doesn’t match your price walk out there are plenty of cars and dealers out there.
There is much to know about the negotiating process and just getting a good price is half the battle, thats when you go into the F&I office and where they will pressure to to purchase many other products some that could be helpful and most not. The best you can do is be informed, and get pre-approved at your bank before you go to the dealer. I am auto negotiator, I could help you, check out my web site for more info and tips, It is still a work in progress. http://www.autonegotiators.mysite.com
