  1. It depends on what you mean by green. If you are looking hybrid it wont happen. Too much money. As far as hybrids being green That is another discussion they are not as friendly to the environment as everybody thinks. If you are looking for the best bang for the buck look at an 05 Jeep Liberty good car good value.

Find a good used Audi A3!!!! They use un-leaded gas but are unbelivably fuel efficient, up to 40 MPG on highway!!! Their new DSG trans has no torque converter and uses real clutches operated by computer to shift. Very efficient. Shop on E-bay or Edmond’s to find one at discount. You won’t be sorry. At least test drive one first, they are unbelievable and fun to drive big time!!! If this is too much for your pocketbook, find a good used VW with the TDI engine (turbo diesel direct injection). They are getting 45 + using diesel, which eventually should be cheaper to purchase than gasoline. VW - Audi are really the world leaders in auto technology and have a huge follwing around the globe. Their warranties are unbeatable. Read the “mileage” and “efficiency label on a brand new Audi tt, for example. THeir numbers flow right off the scale used to determine efficiency!!! Unnnnnn believably good!!!!

I don’t have a certain vehicle in mind. But check out used cars. They often have better gas millage then some new models(we own two used, 89 Subaru and 02 Saturn, they both get an avg of 22 low to 30mpg high). And they don’t cost as much.
I believe I saw a Honda Civic was rated a good car. I do not know the price range.

the only car that fits all your requirements would be a used Subaru Legacy. They are 4 door, AWD, get an average mid 20s in fuel economy and in your price range.
