   That “someone” was having you on.
   Dealers do not want to compete to buy your car. Each one will offer you what it is worth to them. If you don’t like the price, you can take it somewhere else.
   You are just another seller – nobody will ‘compete’ to buy your car, on the net or anywhere else.
   Maybe they were thinking of eBay…??
